Crannogs were a type of ancient loch dwelling found throughout Scotland and Ireland. They were timber-built round houses supported by piles driven into the loch bed. Today they appear as tree islands or remain hidden as submerged, stony mounds. The Scottish Crannog Centre presents a guided tour lasting 20-25 minutes and explains the way of life of Scotland's Iron Age dwellers.
