The Maid of the Loch is the last paddle steamer built in Britain and is the largest inland waterway passenger vessel in Britain. She is also a direct descendent of the first Loch Lomond paddle steamer of 1818. She was built in 1953 by A&J Inglis of Pointhouse, Glasgow for British Railways for service on Loch Lomond. Her usual route was sailing on Loch Lomond from Balloch to Ardlui via Tarbet. In 1957 her ownership was handed to the Caledonian Steam Packet Company that ran the Clyde steamer services and in 1969 was passed to the Scottish Transport Group.
