Beneath the imposing remains of Peveril Castle. A village once existed inside the entrance vestibule, built and inhabited by rope makers, who carried on their craft in the cavern for over 300 years. The remains of the original rope works can still be seen today, and demonstrations of ropemaking are given as part of each tour.
