In the wonderful woodland setting of the Eachaig Valley lies Benmore, a Garden is steeped in history and surrounded by dramatic scenery. With a world-famous collection of magnificent conifers, flowering trees and shrubs. Its 150 acres feature some of the tallest trees in Britain including a spectacular Avenue of Giant Redwoods with these majestic giants souring over 50 metres high.
With its ideal growing conditions, Benmore is a living textbook dedicated to rhododendrons. Home to over 250 species, it cultivates some of the finest Himalayan rhododendrons from the familiar to the rare. From January to September these magnificent plants provide a blaze of glorious colour.
In high summer unusual flowering shrubs and herbaceous plants are a feature, while in September and October there is a spectacular display of autumn colour. The broad-leaved trees and shrubs are set against a backdrop of stately conifers. The oldest trees were planted over 150 years ago, providing a showcase for some of the Garden's established conifers and the historic Formal Garden, including the distinctive Puck's Hut.
A range of trails including 'Wonder at your feet', highlighting endangered Scottish native plants leads through hillside woodlands to a dramatic viewpoint overlooking the Eachaig Valley and Holy Loch. The Courtyard Gallery hosts exhibitions and events, from local craft displays to photography workshops, throughout the season.
