Story of the Isle of Wight and its history through interactive displays and artefacts. The museum has 4 displays: Always and Island? - explores the area of Wight before the arrival of man and the formation of the Island; Taming the Island - traces the impact of people on the landscape from the first hunters to the builders of towns; Peopling the Island - is an introduction to those Islanders past and present who have come here to live and work; The New Island Heritage Gallery - temporary exhibition gallery often exhibiting recent acquisitions, art, archaeology and social history. Closed lunchtimes occasionally iin winter. Please telephone for Christmas opening times.
