Set back from the main road in the pretty village of Long Preston, St Mary's boasts a long and interesting history, being one of the few churches in this area to be mentioned in the Domesday Book. The lower part of the tower is Norman while the nave dates from the late 14th or early 15th century. The Hammerton Chapel was endowed by Richard Hammerton, a Knight mentioned in the Survey of the Chantries, 1546. With fine stained glass by Capronnier this church is a haven of peace and tranquillity.
