Set within the stunning landscape of the Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal World Heritage Site, St Mary's Church, commissioned by the Marquess and Marchioness of Ripon, is a masterpiece of the Victorian Gothic Revival style. Designed by renowned architect William Burges and built between 1871 and 1878, the exterior is dominated by an impressive steeple. It is the richly decorated interior, however, that is worthy of particular note. Bathed in light from the magnificent stained-glass windows, this outstanding Grade I listed church is lavishly adorned with fine marble, gilding, murals and mosaics.
