Pubs & Bars

Chester has a great range of pubs and bars from traditional half-timbered inns steeped in history to sophisticated café bars serving the stylish “Cheshire Set”.

Some suggestions for those who enjoy an al fresco experience: The Frog and Nightingale overlooks the canal at Hair Lane Bridge, The Boat overlooks the River Dee, or for a courtyard or roof top experience try Tonik Bar at Rufus Court or Watergates on Watergate Street.

Among Chester’s best historic pubs are The Falcon Inn on Lower Bridge Street, The Boot on Eastgate Row and The Bear and Billet, Lower Bridge Street.

For real ale try Harkers on the canal side or the Mill Hotel always has a great selection. The Albion on Albion Street prides itself on being old fashioned and traditional – so there’s no music and no children allowed!
A number of new trendy bars have opened recently with late licences including the Living Room, Mansion House and the Amber Room.
