Festivals
York is an entertaining city with year round festivals.
The city hosts a number of festivals celebrating the many different eras that have touched this 2000-year-old city. Vikings run riot in February at the Jorvik Viking Festival and the Romans are on the march in July’s Roman Festival.
York is also home to the UK’s largest food & drink festival. For 10 days each September the city boasts fantastic food & drink in an extravaganza of specialist markets, celebrity chef demonstrations, themed dinners, product launches and any number of special events.
Enjoy some of the greatest names in comedy at York’s comedy festival in June. This week-long event combines traditional stand up, comedy plays, workshops and open-air events at some of the finest venues around the city.
York streets echo to a variety music festivals throughout the year. May’s Music Live Festival is followed by July’s Early Music Festival and is complemented by a wide range of jazz, rock, classical and folk music venues. Enjoy the University of York Concert Series and York Minster services and concerts.
Catch the Christmas spirit at the St Nicholas Fayre. Marvel at the enticing concoction of decorations, lights, Christmas trees, old-fashioned Victorian street stalls and atmosphere, and find something special at one of York’s 2000 shops.
