Acomb is a former mining village, now increasingly a popular place to live. It is situated not far from the junction of the North and South Tyne Rivers, about two miles north west of Hexham. It is chiefly centred around one street that climbs from the main road to a small square with an interesting old drinking fountain. The youth hostel at the top of the street is much used by walkers using the Hadrian's Wall bus. A few cosy village pubs along its length are popular with locals and visitors alike.
