Bardon Mill

Bardon Mill is the name most commonly used for a collection of hamlets situated on the northern slopes of the South Tyne Valley between Haydon Bridge and Haltwhistle. Bardon Mill itself is grouped around the railway station on the Tyne Valley Line, and the Errington Reay Pottery nearby produces a range of traditional salt-glazed stoneware, popular for the home and garden. Henshaw and Thorngrafton are older settlements perched higher on the hillside; they include some traditional Northumbrian bastle houses, some of which are still inhabited. The village is close to some of the major Hadrian's Wall sites, and it offers some fine walks, particularly to Vindolanda and the National Trust woodland of Allen Banks.
