Doncaster

Doncaster is a delightful blend of urban and rural charm, its vibrant town centre complemented by historic villages and market towns. Dominating the town’s skyline is St George’s Church, a masterpiece from George Gilbert Scott, architect of St Pancras station. The Mansion House, one of only three in England, is a fine example of Georgian architecture. One of its most famous attractions is Doncaster Racecourse, where the highlight of the annual racing calendar is the historic St Leger Festival.

For shoppers, Doncaster Market features over 500 stalls. The newly refurbished Frenchgate Centre has high street stores and designer boutiques and Lakeside Village, just two miles from the town centre, offers extensive outlet shopping.

History buffs will enjoy Conisbrough Castle, the backdrop for Sir Walter Scott’s novel Ivanhoe; Brodsworth Hall and Gardens, a perfect time capsule of a Victorian country house; and nearby Cusworth Hall, a Georgian mansion that houses the Museum of South Yorkshire Life.

A first time visitor to Doncaster will be pleasantly surprised by the choice of parks, woodlands, wetlands and nature reserves that bound the 226 square miles that is the Borough of Doncaster.
