Preston’s history dates back to the doomsday book and a simple walk around this now modern vibrant city can reveal fascinating secrets with just a peek around the corner or an upwards glance.
The city’s 1000 year history has provided some remarkable buildings including over 770 Grade I and Grade II listed buildings, many of which are highlighted during the many organised Heritage Walks lead by The Blue Badge Guides. The walks run from April till October and cover a number of different themes and areas of the city. Schedules can be requested from the Tourist Information Centre.
Preston is home to six museums. The museum of Lancashire, The Harris Museum and Art Gallery, Lancashire Regimental Museum, The British Commercial Vehicle Museum and the new Ribble Steam Museum. Football is not just a passion in Preston but for many – a way of life! So Preston is a natural home for The National Football Museum.
Preston is also home to the fastest growing university in the UK, contributing to the vibrant buzz and youthful culture of the city. A broad and eclectic mix of bars, restaurants and theatre alongside fantastic shopping means that Preston is now a city for the 21st Century.
