Saltaire

Saltaire World Heritage Site is a must-see for anyone interested in England’s industrial heritage. The village built by Sir Titus Salt in 1876 still remains in its original form and continues to be inhabited by city workers. Salts Mill has also been converted into an art gallery, showcasing one of the largest collections in Europe of the work by Bradford born artist David Hockney. Those who like to shop will also find a selection of specialist shops within the mill.

Indeed shopping at Salts Mill is a relaxing experience, with beautiful boutique shops surrounded by Hockney paintings and exhibits. Victoria Road, running alongside the mill, continues the theme of interesting shops. Here antiques and vintage clothing, as well as books and gifts for the mind, body and soul can be found.

Saltaire has a variety of things to see and do, including the Victorian Shipley Glen Tramway taking visitors up to the moors; the United Reform Church, a marvel of marble; and a wide range of trendy bars and restaurants to satisfy the most discerning palate. For the more active there is: golf at Hollins Hall; walking and cycle tracks along the Leeds Liverpool canal, taking in the famous Five Rise Locks at Bingley; the picturesque Roberts Park.
