The Blean is between the cathedral city of Canterbury, the coastal towns of Whitstable and Herne Bay and the old Roman market town of Faversham.
It is a mosaic of villages, woodlands, farms and local businesses, shops and pubs. For nearly twenty years the Blean Woods have been recognised as offering a special landscape, with thousands of hectares of more or less continuous ancient woodland the Blean is home to many rare species of wildlife.
The best way to experience the magical atmosphere of The Blean’s unspoilt woodland is to explore the 120 miles of public rights of way. You could spot the rare heath fritillary butterfly in June or July, hear the nightingales singing in early summer, or stumble across medieval wood banks and bronze age barrows.
Walk in the woods, bring or hire a bicycle; whichever way you decide to explore, there are many attractive local villages to discover with a wealth of traditional pubs and shops selling local produce.
