Tobermory, the principal town on the Island of Mull, is one of the most beautiful natural harbours on the west coast of Scotland. Its picturesque tiers of brightly painted houses built on the hillside of the harbour provide a stunning backdrop to an area rich in marine species and wildlife.
Tobermory distillery provides guided tours and tasting sessions of the local malt whisky, which is distilled using traditional methods. For entertainment, the local Mishnish bar hosts regular live music sessions and ceilidhs. The town is also an excellent touring base to visit attractions around the island of Mull. The attractive lochside village of Dervaig close by boasts the smallest theatre in the world – the Mull little Theatre. Also nearby is beautifully restored Duart Castle, ancient seat of the Clan MacLean which can be reached via a steam train ride on the Mull Little Railway.
The beautiful beaches and bays around Tobermory make it a walker’s paradise, and for wildlife watchers, the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust describes the natural environment and local marine and wildlife. There are guided wildlife tours around the island and boat trips to the neighbouring islands.
