The Treehouse at Alnwick Castle

Treehouse walkway at Alnwick Castle

For a truly unique and very memorable day out, go to The Treehouse in Alnwick Gardens. Set in the grounds of Alnwick Castle, it’s one of the largest wooden treehouses in the world. You might recognise the gothic Alnwick Castle – it’s Hogwarts wizard school from the Harry Potter movies.

Built around 16 mature lime trees, Alnwick Treehouse is a 6,000 sq ft complex of turreted cottages linked by suspended walkways, high in the trees outside the walls of the main garden. It’s a place for children and adults to learn, play and relax. And although it’s 60 feet high, there’s access via a ramp so The Treehouse, its rope bridges and walkways in the sky are accessible to everyone, including wheelchair users.

The Treehouse was built using natural materials from sustainable resources including Canadian Cedar, Scandinavian Redwood and English and Scotch pine, and the quirky design is so at home in its environment that it looks as if The Treehouse has grown out of the ground.

There’s an atmospheric restaurant in the grounds which provides the perfect place to relax after a day out at the castle and gardens – the roaring log fire, living tree growing through the room and soft lighting create a magical ambient. The food is delicious and healthy, made up of locally sourced produce such as lobster, vegetables and even Alnwick Estate venison.

A meal at the Treehouse is perfect for a special occasion, but if you find yourself at Alnwick Castle and Gardens, don’t miss your chance for a great dinner in a magical setting.
