The Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral

Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King

Start your day with a visit to one of Liverpool’s 2 cathedrals. The Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King is a stunning building opened in 1967. Inside, the altar is in the centre of the round crypt, and immediately below the Lantern Tower. The tower is the most striking feature of the Cathedral, and contains the world’s largest stained glass window.

Just a short walk along Hope Street, you’ll find Liverpool Cathedral, the largest Anglican Cathedral in Europe. Here, you can see the world’s highest Gothic arches, and it’s not hard to see why the Cathedral is regarded as one of the great buildings of the 20th century. Don’t miss the chance to go up to the Tower for fantastic views of the city and beyond.

Mersey Ferry towards the Three Graces

Mersey Ferries

A ferry trip across the River Mersey is a must-do on your trip to Liverpool. The River Mersey has a rich and varied history, and a River Explorer Cruise with Mersey Ferries will teach you all about the fascinating history of the river and Liverpool’s historic waterfront. The ferry has been running for 850 years, and runs daily from Liverpool’s Pier Head to New Brighton and Birkenhead.

The Tate Gallery at Albert Dock

Tate Liverpool

From the Pier Head, take a short walk along the historic buildings of the waterfront to the Albert Dock. The dock is Liverpool’s top tourist attraction, and is home to the largest group of Grade I buildings in the UK. Tate Liverpool is situated in the Dock, and is home to the National Collection of Modern Art in the North. It’s also the largest gallery of modern and contemporary art outside London, and is holding the Turner Prize 2007.

Beatles Story in Albert Dock

Beatles Story

End your trip to Liverpool with a visit to the Beatles Story – a must-see for all Beatles fans. Step back in time and find out how 4 lads from Liverpool became the biggest band in the world. There’s an audio guide narrated by John Lennon’s sister, the world’s only ‘blue’ White Album, a never before heard interview with Sir Paul McCartney, George Harrison’s first ever guitar, John Lennon’s iconic spectacles and much more.
