Food in Britain
Britain is experiencing a food revolution with its exciting mix of modern British cuisine alongside opportunities to taste and shop for every possibly combination of culinary delight.
London is a great starting point for any food lover with an interest in international cuisine. Brick Lane is home to an eclectic mix of Asian restaurants and a visit to Fortnum and Mason, the most exclusive food emporium in the country, will not leave you disappointed. Outside of the capital, Bradford, Birmingham and Leicester are all centres for Indian food. Or, why not indulge in a visit to one of our many regional food markets - Manchester’s Fine Foods market, held in St Anne’s square, is a perfect example.
In addition to enjoying cooking from around the world, there’s been a huge revival in traditional British cuisine using the finest regional and seasonal produce including Stilton from the East Midlands, the finest strawberries from Kent and delicious seafood in Scotland. Furthermore, chefs such as Jamie Oliver and the Fifteen Foundation all champion the best of British seafood and game and you will find a growing number of Michelin starred restaurants serving up tempting British treats.
Finally, tea and afternoon tea have played important roles in our culture over the years and still do today. For the quintessential British afternoon tea experience, a visit to the Dorchester or the Ritz in London, Cliveden in Berkshire or Hazelmere Café & bakery in Cumbria is the height of sophistication.
And don’t forget to try a nip of Scottish whisky - to aid digestion, of course.
