Shopping in Britain

Shopping in Victoria Quarter, Leeds

If you can't buy it in Britain, the chances are you can't buy it anywhere. There's so much choice you won't even need to test Harrods's famous claim to be able to get you anything you want.

Enormous shopping centres like Manchester's Trafford Centre and Bluewater in Essex gives you all the shops you expect under one roof and Bicester Village, a designer outlet village in Oxfordshire, sells luxury and premium brands at discounted prices. Glasgow is the 2nd largest retail centre in the UK outside of London, with every kind of shop from high street to boutique.

For the same convenience, try walking around the West End of London. Start at Bond Street and work your way east along Oxford Street and Regent Street all the way to Covent Garden, taking in Selfridges, Hamleys, Topshop, Marks and Spencer and all the biggest designer names along the way.

Shopping in Central Exchange, Newcastle upon Tyne

London's markets are great places to pick up things you'd never get anywhere else, as well as unique souvenirs. Portobello Road in Notting Hill is the place to be on Saturday, and Spitalfields at Liverpool Street is the perfect way to spend a Sunday. Not only are there cutting edge exclusives, but you'll find a variety of bargains on offer.

Outside of London, Selfridges has impressive stores up and down the country - Birmingham's branch is also an acclaimed work of architecture - and Harvey Nichols has stores in Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds and Edinburgh. Boutiques, selling everything from jewellery to shoes and antiques are dotted all around Glasgow, York and Brighton, while the Victorian shopping arcades of Cardiff and Bristol are so beautiful that you don't even need to shop to have fun.
