Lizard Peninsula

Filmed in Cornwall

Ladies in Lavender is a charming and sweetly melancholic film about two ageing spinsters whose peaceful Cornish existence is disrupted when they take a young man into their care... and their hearts. Filming took place in the stunningly wild areas of St IvesHelston and close to Cornwall's famed Lizard Peninsula around England's most southerly tip.

Emotion, love and passion

The film is set in England in the golden late-summer of 1936, and captures the emotions of those who have waited their entire lives for love, and who suddenly find their buried passions uncovered. This area of immense natural beauty provided the perfect location for the sisters' cliff-top cottage, and the beach below where they discover Andrea - the young Polish castaway washed up on the shore.

Dame Judy Dench

The setting in Cornwall underlines the magic and beauty of the whole story. 'It gave a real sense and feeling of a special place' explains Dame Judy Dench, who plays Ursula. Indeed, when you visit this idyllic part of England, the spectacular mix of stunning scenery, enchanting seascapes and abounding history will really take your breath away.
