The Drum & Monkey

Situated on St Vincent Street in the heart of Glasgow, the Drum and Monkey building was formerly a bank, the fine classical interior of which was converted several years ago into the popular bar and restaurant. St Vincent Street, where the pub can be found, was named after a prominent Spanish holy man.

However, like so many Glasgow street names, St Vincent Street marks a historical occasion. In this case, the sea battle of Cape St Vincent off the Spanish coast of Spain in 1797 - an early victory of the British over the French at the time of the Napoleonic Wars.

The building in which the Drum & Monkey is situated was built in 1924 by the eminent architect Andrew Balfour. The general style could be compared to classical American architecture of the period. Indeed the strict grid pattern of the streets in this part of town, laid out in the 18th and 19th Centuries, is also comparable to the layout of many American cities of the time.

The Drum and Monkey offers an outstanding selection of 18 malt whiskeys including; Glenmorganie, Glenfiddich and Highland Port and three cask ales. Customers can also chose from a great variety of red and white wines from the wine menu.
