The 2008 Michelin Awards for Great Britain & Northern Ireland confirm Britain as one of the world’s best destinations for great food.

102 restaurants in Britain received 1 Michelin star; 11 received 2; and 3 restaurants received a prestigious 3 stars, making a total of 116 Michelin awards in Britain. Of these, 15 were new restaurants receiving their very first star.

This year’s awards saw 5 restaurants in London claiming their first star: La Trompette; Hibiscus; Wild Honey; Rhodes W1 and Quilon. In the south-east of England 3 restaurants gained their first stars: Seasalter in Kent; Apicius in Cranbrook and West Stoke House in Sussex. The south-west of England has 2 new Michelin star restaurants: Restaurant Nathan Outlaw in Fowey and Tean on the Scilly Isles. Scotland also has 2 new 1-star restaurants: Ballachulish House in the Highlands and Champany Inn in Linlithgow near Edinburgh.

As well as the famous Michelin star awards, the inspectors awarded Bib Gourmands to establishments offering 'good food at moderate prices' - 3 courses for less than £28.  This year there are 31 new ones in Britain.

The Bib Gourmands are spread all over Britain, and those in London include Gordon Ramsay's The Narrow in Limehouse.
