Robert Rees Biography
Nationally Robert is a Board Member of the Food Standards Agency placing consumers at the forefront of food policy decisions. He is a member of the Meat Hygiene Advisory Committee, supervising all aspects of UK Meat safety policy monitored by the Meat Hygiene Service with BSE controls being placed as a priority.
In August of 2002 Robert took up a position as General Governor of the British Nutrition Foundation and recently became a member of the working party on Governance and Funding for the new Sector Skills Council and the SME Taskforce Steering Group.
Cooking for the Queen
Robert is the resident Chef for Gloucestershire Farmers Markets and BBC Radio Gloucestershire and works for Gloucestershire Tourism in promoting the county overseas. He is a consultant for Gloucestershire Food Links and assists Gloucestershire Taste of the West on many aspects of local food and Chairs the Gloucestershire "in house" school caterers group.
Robert was proud that he was chosen to cook for Her Majesty the Queen at the event of the Maundy Service in Gloucester Cathedral in April 2003 solely sourcing from Gloucestershire suppliers. He is also a member of the steering group of "Gloucestershire...its about taste" campaign, Chairman of Gloucestershire's Procurement Strategy Group and the driving force behind Gloucestershire's Food Vision to be implemented by the local strategic partnership.
In November 2003 Robert represented the UK as an Ambassador for Food at a British Food Festival in New Delhi and Bangalore for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Food Education
Robert is a Director of the Stroud and Mid-Gloucestershire Education Business Partnership working on food projects that meet all targets within the curriculum.
Robert was recently nominated for BBC Radio 4 Food Programme "Best Food Educator" prize. Robert is Chairman of Gloucestershire Hospitality Education and Tourism Group - an organisation that promotes the industry as a first choice career, looks at ways of up-skilling the industry and brings training and industry together in the county.
