Unusual churches in Britain
Britain has a myriad of interesting and unusual churches to discover. Here's a little taster of the treasures out there!
St Mary's - Whitby
From its magnificent headland position overlooking the town of Whitby in North Yorkshire, St Mary's Abbey gave Bram Stoker the inspiration to write his world famous book, Dracula. The unusual interior still has its 18th-century three-decker pulpit, complete with an ear trumpet, the relic of a 19th-century vicar's deaf wife!
Greyfriars Kirk - Edinburgh
Greyfriars Kirk (www.greyfriarskirk.com/) in Scotland's magnificent capital Edinburgh has a significant place in Scottish history. It was the focus of radical Covenanters seeking Scottish self-determination in matters of Kirk and state. There is also a romantic tale of a devoted dog, Greyfriar's Bobby, subject of a new film.
