Trust me, she (they) are gonna be big !

When our man Phil over at EMI tells us he's got a great new talent, we sit up and listen - hes picked a few winners in the past. So when news broke that EMI had signed Make Model, a new band out of Scotland to their illustrious books, we naturally jumped at the chance to hear what their lead singer Aimi Gold had to say about this little nation of ours......

Make Model

The Britain Interview

Name:Aimi Gold  Age: (if we may be so bold) 22 Place of Birth: Dundee, Scotland

Imagine you’ve never been to Britain before.  What is your first impression? That’s hard to answer. Depends on where you visit. We are currently on tour at the moment and have stopped in a couple of places, Brighton for example, that are amazing with nice people and great atmosphere. So, if i were to visit there first I would think “oh wow, nice country.”

What is your favourite British city and why? I love Glasgow. When I first moved there for university I thought it was amazing. It was refreshing just to move to a new city after staying in Dundee for 18 years but on top of that the music scene in Glasgow is so much bigger and vibrant and it gave me the opportunity to become part of Make Model and to be able to sing for a living. I’ve also made some of my closest friends while living in Glasgow.

What’s your favourite British band/song/song lyric/film?- I would say PJ Harvey is my favourite British artist. I love how accomplished she is as a musician, songwriter and lyricist. On record her voice has immense character and a beautiful emotive quality and she does not disappoint with live performance.

You’ve got one day to spend in Britain. Money is no object and you have a jet-speed magic carpet.  What do you do?- Grab all my friends, do a selection of water sport, e.g. white water rafting, water skiing in the north of Scotland. Stop for a picnic lunch in Hyde Park. Hit Alton towers with a queue jump pass.  Pop in for a cup of tea with Tom Jones in a Welsh castle. Have dinner and cocktails in a remote mansion house in Northern Ireland then retire to the drawing room for a competitive game of poker. (editors note - Good answer Ami!)

Name your favourite location on the Monopoly board- Chance.

Describe the best meal you’ve eaten in Britain.- My Gran’s steak pie.

What’s your favourite British dish/food? My Gran’s steak pie.

What colour do you think best represents Britain? Green.

We Brits have a reputation overseas for being stuffy and reserved: is this image outdated? Yes, particularly for the younger generation.

If you had to spend the rest of your life in ONE place in Britain, where would you choose and why? – Wherever the people I love are.

If you could change one thing about Britain, what would it be?-The weather. (editors note - recurring though misconcieved theme)

Will Britain forget Beckham now he’s in the US? -no, I think we are just as aware of celebrities that live in the US as we are of celebs that live here.

Will England ever win the World Cup?- Not sure, why are your questions very English based?? Hmm, not very British.

What’s your favourite restaurant in Britain? I love the Agacan, a Turkish restaurant in Dundee.

What is the best gig, concert or festival you’ve been to in Britain?-  The first T in the Park I went to was an eye opening experience. So much fun, just a weekend of utter chaos and I got to see some of my favourite bands and artists.  I also went to see a band called Trans Am a few months ago. I had never really listened to them on record but was blown away by their live performance.

Who’s your favourite Bond? – Sean Connery for obvious reasons.

Britain is quite simply………my home.

Quick Fire:
