Family-friendly music festivals

Britain's summer music festivals are something that no-one should miss out on, not even the kids. Lots of festivals have plenty for kids to do, so make sure you bring your family along for the ultimate festival experience! Here are some of our favourite family-friendly summer festivals:

Secret Garden Party

Secret Garden Party

When: 24 - 27 July 2008
Where: The exact location is only revealed to ticket holders, but it'll be somewhere in the East Anglian countryside.
What: With a capacity of just 6,000 people, the Secret Garden Party is a 4-day party like no other. Occupying 100 acres in the grounds of a Georgian farm house, the festival is founded on creative participation, so expect everything from reading Shakespeare round a bonfire to custard pie battles on the lake and hula-hooping at sunset.
Tickets: Adult (18+) £125; Over 14s £100; Under 14's free. All tickets are for the entire weekend and a free campervan pass is optional.

Museum of Childhood Summer Festival

When: Sunday 3 August 2008
Where: V&A Museum of Childhood, London
What: Bringing a touch of Glastonbury to East London, the grounds of this great museum buzz with the sounds of live music, street performers, rickshaw rides, children's games, face painting and much more.

Innocent Village Fete

When: 2 - 3 August 2008
Where:Regent's Park, London
What: The Innocent Village Fete is a fantastic weekend family festival set in the heart of London's Regent's Park. Welly-wanging, Morris dancing, duck herding, ferret racing, cream teas, barn dancing, funfair rides and maypole dancing are just some of the activities you'll find yourself doing with your family. And on top of all that, there's a Farmer's market (with stallholders from Borough Market), a reading area, knitting tent, open air yoga and of course, lots of great music and delicious Innocent smoothies!
Tickets: Adult £5; Child £2.50. Profits from all ticket sales will go to the following charities: WellChild; Friends of the Earth and Samaritans.

Underage Festival

When: 8 August
Where: Victoria Park, London
What: The Underage Festival is, as the name suggests, strictly under-19s with no adults allowed. The festival presents some of the best indie/rock/electronic music around. 2007 saw the likes of Jack Penate, Late of the Pier, Lethal Bizzle, Cajun Dance Party, Patrick Wolf and many others. There's no alcohol at the festival - the bar serves soft drinks only.

Summer Sundae Weekender

Summer Sundae Weekender

When: 8 - 10 August 2008
Where: De Montford Hall & Gardens, Leicester
What: The Summer Sundae Weekender is a 3-day festival with internationally known and cutting edge artists on indoor and outdoor stages. Just 100 yards from the main campsite is a great family-oriented campsite, and there's also a brilliant Kids Zone. Expect kid's shows, clowns, face painters, music workshops, balloon races, creepy crawly costume making, and a designated under-5's area. Plus look out for breakfast-time fun and bed-time stories.

Bestival

When: 5 - 7 September 2008
Where: Robin Hill Countryside Adventure Park, Isle of Wight
What: This year Bestival brings you a bigger, better, bolder and bouncier Kid's Area, positioned next to the new Family Campsite. There are craft workshops, play areas, a bouncy castle, circus, clown and puppet shows, and even bedtime stories. There's also a toddler's play area and crèche so you can book them in, drop them off and go have fun yourself!
Tickets: Adult (16+) £139; Child (13 - 15) £74; Children under 12 free. Tickets are for the entire weekend and include camping.
