Abingdon
From Oxford, continue down the Thames Path, and cross the river at Abingdon Lock. You’ll soon arrive at Abingdon Bridge, which was built in 1422. The market town of Abingdon is across the bridge – it’s one of the most important of all the historic towns on the Thames, with a magnificent town hall and abbey founded as early as 675AD.
Wallingford
On the journey from Abingdon to Wallingford you’ll come across lots of small villages. The small market town of Wallingford was founded by King Alfred in the early 10th century. Wallingford Castle was built by William the Conqueror after his victory at the Battle of Hastings. It became one of the most important castles in England, but very little remains of it now.
