Shopping in Brighton
The Lanes
Lose yourself in Brighton (www.visitbrighton.com/)’s oldest quarter, an intriguing labyrinth of 400-year-old twisting alleyways with a uniquely boho feel. Round a corner and you never know what – or who – you’ll see. Kirsten Dunst is a fan of fabulously on-trend fashion boutique Tribeca, purveyor of labels like Erotokritos. The bespoke chocolate cakes created by Choccywoccydoodah are a Brighton institution.
North Laine
Bohemian and ethnic with its flea markets, studios selling jewellery and ceramics, and cool cafes, North Laine has over 300 independent shops to explore. Ananda sells furniture and textiles from Indonesia, while Blackout is big on incredibly bright accessories from India and tribal southern China.
On the waterfront
The seafront is brilliantly laid-back and fashionable. Invest in some art at the super-scenic Beachfront Artists’ Quarter – 20 studios housed in converted fishermen’s huts.
