Shopping in Newcastle-upon-Tyne
The smart set
Locals are famous for their glamorous dress sense and they flock to Newcastle’s smart stores. Boutique Leaf is very popular, as are Karen Millen and All Saints. In Princess Square is a trio of glossy boutiques called Cruise. One offers high-end clothes for men and women; another is for casual womenswear (Juicy Couture); and the third features sporty labels for men like Prada Sport.
Pop art for sale
The Biscuit Factory art studios are run by former music promoter Andy Balman, who has staged Bowie and Oasis, so it’s inevitably cool. Expect cutting-edge photography, paintings, sculpture, ceramics and glass.
Designer heaven
Eldon Square, with over 140 stores including Fenwick and John Lewis, is a great centre to shop. Linked to it is Eldon Garden, the place to find designer brands and fashion labels in a stylish environment. And look out for the superbly tiled Edwardian Central Arcade in the increasingly popular Grainger Town area.
