Floris
Among the few remaining established British perfume brands, Floris (www.florislondon.com) represents history, tradition and quality. Perfumes and room scents are conservative and fragrances such as lavender, freesia and rose will delight anyone. There is also a men’s range, which is a little less flowery.
Jo Malone
Since launching a luxurious fragrance brand, Jo Malone (www.jomalone.co.uk) has become a runaway success with her subtle and authentic fragrances. Head to the Sloane Street flagship store and sample mixed up potions at the ‘tasting bar’.
Penhaligon's
Although established in 1870, Penhaligon's (www.penhaligons.co.uk) shops have a feel of modern luxury. Some stores offer ‘scent mapping’ whereby a perfume is selected according to your tastes. Traditional fragrances are still popular, however modern scents such as cardamom and ginger smell good enough to eat.
