Edinburgh Marathon

Just imagine it. On Sunday 25 May, thousands upon thousands of people will be running together through the streets of Edinburgh. All united in one common goal – to make it across the finish line. The Edinburgh Marathon is in its 4th year, and as always, thousands of spectators will line the 26.2-mile course to cheer on our spirited runners and enjoy the marathon atmosphere.

The Edinburgh Marathon is more than just a race – it is a festival of fun with on-route entertainment and finish-line celebrations. The race day also reflects great human spirit thanks to the thousands of runners raising money for charitable causes. Since it started, the Edinburgh Marathon has raised millions of pounds for charities all over Britain.

The race starts at 09:00, and this year there will be everything from pipe bands and discos to bouncy castles and school choirs to entertain the spectators lining the course. The race offers something for everyone, young and old, running or not running - it is a 26. 2-mile long street party.

As an added incentive for runners, there’s the ‘Over the Wall Challenge’, where runners from either side of Hadrian’s Wall (England and Scotland) compete for the fastest time. Before the race, runners will be asked whether they’re part of Team England or Team Scotland, and after the run, the times are added up to decide the winning team. In 2007, Team Scotland won the title of ‘Best UK Marathon Runners 2007’.

So get your jogging shoes on and get down to the sidelines to encourage our runners and keep them on the move.
