Playing tennis
Tennis is a great British summer sport, and there are thousands of places across Britain where you can play. Whether it's in a local park, leisure centre or a tennis club, and whether you're a beginner or the next Wimbledon champion, there's somewhere for you in Britain.
There are courts in most local parks across Britain, some of which are free to use. These are usually concrete courts, and you'll generally need to bring along your own rackets and balls. The courts are often locked when there's no one playing, so you'll need to find the park keeper, who'll open it for you. If you don't know where to find the park keeper, ask in the park shop or café. To find your nearest free tennis court, visit Tennis for Free (www.tennisforfree.com/).
Many large hotels in Britain also have tennis courts, either in grounds outside, or in the hotel leisure centre. Large chain hotels will usually let non-guests use the tennis courts for a small fee, but if you're staying there, facilities like tennis courts are usually free. Ask at the hotel reception for more information, or use our accommodation search to look for a place with courts.
