Oxford

Oxford waterways

The Oxford Canal joins the River Thames in Oxford below an attractive iron bridge at Isis Lock. The canal itself ends 200 yards further on at Hythe Bridge, right in the centre of the historic city of Oxford. The towpaths of the Oxford Canal are ideal for a stroll to escape the hustle and bustle of Oxford centre and for soaking up the relaxed atmosphere of canal life. With the River Thames close by as well, Oxford is truly a waterway city. Of course there are also plenty of other attractions in Oxford to keep you occupied, all of which can be accessed easily from the terminus of the Oxford Canal. For a bird’s eye view of the city including its waterways, try climbing Carfax Tower or visit one of the many museums, libraries or art galleries.
