Swyncombe

Walk alongside the River Thames for this part of the Ridgeway (www.nationaltrail.co.uk/Ridgeway/). The village of Swyncombe is one of the remotest and most beautiful parts of the Chilterns (www.chilternsaonb.org/), an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (www.aonb.org.uk/). The Chilterns are an unspoilt area of rolling chalk hills, quiet valleys, and charming villages, and the perfect place to see the unspoilt English countryside.

Watlington

Watlington (www.4watlington.co.uk/index.shtml) is the smallest market town in England, with a population of just 2,500. It's thought to have been occupied since the 6th century, and is mentioned in the Domesday book. Here, you'll join the Icknield Way Path (www.icknieldwaypath.co.uk/), the oldest road in Britain, dotted with archaeological remains from prehistoric times.
