Christmas pantomimes
Pantomime theatre
‘HE’S BEHIND YOU!’ roar the audience in unison as the Big Bad Wolf creeps up behind our heroine; the sweet and innocent, cross-dressing Little Red Riding Hood. This is what British pantomime is all about – audience participation, fairytale fun, gender-switching and all round hilarity.
British panto
Pantomime (or ‘panto’ as we fondly call it) is as British as damp mornings and afternoon tea. This unique form of theatre incorporates song, dance, slapstick, satire and audience participation. Subtle innuendos and sophisticated wit keep parents amused, while larger-than-life characters and ruckus buffoonery have the kids rolling in the aisles.
Festive performances
Although you can find some performances all year round, Christmas is when things really get going. You won’t be able to turn a corner in Theatreland without encountering eloquent felines in strapping leather boats, overweight fairies with northern accents and parades of cheering children.
