Sleepovers at Kew Gardens
World Heritage Site Kew Gardens is an historic London landscape garden covering more than 300 acres and housing botanic collections that have been enriched over 2.5 centuries.
Now we know what you're thinking, 'Plants' - not the obvious choice for entertaining the kids, but then you haven't been to Kew. It's like entering a magical world flora and fauna that makes it seem like you're on another planet - and it's all real.
For a trip to Kew the family will never forget, take your kids to a special sleepover in the Gardens. The aim of the sleepovers is to give children aged 8 to 11 an exciting and educational experience in an out-of-this-world environment.
With 26 gardens and 6 stunning glasshouses, each containing different plant life from around the world, your children are guaranteed an enchanting stay. Kew's expert guides bring the night to life with most of the evening spent outdoors.
The night is made up of games and activities such as potting competitions, Scavenger, Plant and Animal Hunts and snack breaks. At the end of the night, everyone gathers around the campfire for toasting marshmallows and storytelling.
You don't need to worry about sleeping outdoors because the base camp is the indoor Climbers and Creepers botanical play zone - one of Kew's most popular children's areas.
At sunrise you can tuck into a breakfast followed by a ceremony to award certificates to 'Best Plant Hunter', 'Best Photographer', Best Entomologist, or even the 'Loudest Snorer'!
The smallest group allowed on a sleepover is 1 adult and 4 children. For larger groups, the ratio must be 1 adult to 5 children. This adult must be responsible for the children all night (sleepovers run from 18:15 - 08:00).
Tickets for the sleepovers are issued on a first come, first served basis. To find out this year's dates, and to register for tickets, visit Kew - Sleepovers (www.kew.org/events/sleepover/dates.htm).
