Gay Liverpool

See & do

Liverpool has a startling range of attractions - we haven't been awarded the Capital of Culture (www.visitliverpool.com/site/whats-on/liverpool-european-capital-of-culture-2008-p72951) title for nothing. The architecture is world-class, with more listed buildings then any city outside London, and the heart of the city and its waterfront sits proudly alongside treasures like the Taj Mahal and Pyramids at Giza as a World Heritage Site. Whether it's art and culture, sport or family outings for the half term holidays you're looking for, you'll be spoilt for choice in Liverpool.

Musical Liverpool

Liverpool is the birthplace of not only the Beatles, but also to Echo and the Bunnymen, Atomic Kitten, Cream and the Coral, the Farm and Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Take a trip on the Magical Mystery Tour (www.visitliverpool.com/site/attractions/p_16225), visit the Beatles Story and Cavern Club (www.visitliverpool.com/site/attractions/cavern-club-beatles-p8968), or spend some time at the Beatles Week (www.visitliverpool.com/site/whats-on/international-beatles-week-festival-p16220), which culminates in the Mathew Street Festival (www.visitliverpool.com/site/whats-on/mathew-street-festival-p16228). Summer in the city sees the Africa Oye Festival (www.visitliverpool.com/site/whats-on/africa-oye-p16195) in Sefton Park, and the World in Princes Park, which includes the Liverpool Mela, whilst Creamfields (www.visitliverpool.com/site/whats-on/creamfields-uk-2006-p16229) takes place just outside the city on the Daresbury Estate over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Maritime Liverpool

In the British Empire's heyday, Liverpool's port was Britain's gateway to the rest of the world, turning liverpool into the vibrant, diverse, international city it is today. Maritime heritage weaves a rich thread through the city today, from the Three Graces (www.visitliverpool.com/site/attractions/pier-head-and-the-three-graces-p17747) on the Waterfront to the Albert Dock (www.visitliverpool.com/site/attractions/albert-dock-p16143), home of the Merseyside Maritime Museum (www.visitliverpool.com/site/attractions/merseyside-maritime-museum-p8987)

A trip across the river on the world-famous Mersey Ferry (www.visitliverpool.com/site/attractions/mersey-ferries-p8264) offers the most dramatic views of the waterfront and Three Graces - the Liver Building, Cunard Building and Port of Liverpool Building. On the Wirral side of the river, you can find the stunning new Spaceport (www.spaceport.org.uk/intro.asp)  attraction at the Seacombe ferry terminal.

Fresh air & green spaces

Whether it's the beautiful buildings, or a taste of the outdoors that catches your interest, you won't be short of ideas. Take a break from the whir of the city at Knowsley Safari Park (www.visitliverpool.com/site/attractions/merseyside-maritime/knowsley-safari-park-p7933); the new National Wildflower Centre (www.visitliverpool.com/site/attractions/merseyside-maritime/national-wildflower-centre-p8665), also in Knowsley, or the windswept drama of Wirral Country Park (www.visitliverpool.com/site/attractions/wirral-country-park-p7711) with its breathtaking views over the River Dee and Welsh mountains beyond. Southport offers excellent shopping and a traditional Victorian promenade and beach to stroll along later. Or try a combination of the two at Croxteth Hall and Country Park (www.visitliverpool.com/site/attractions/croxteth-hall-and-country-park-p7413), or the magnificent Speke Hall (www.visitliverpool.com/site/attractions/speke-hall-p55084).
