Getting there

Getting to Newcastle Gateshead is easy.  There are excellent links to Newcastle Gateshead by air, by rail, by road, or by sea.

Newcastle International (www.newcastleairport.com/) is conveniently located only 20-25 minutes away from the heart of the city with regular international and cheap domestic flights; the airport also boasts its own Metro station as well as shuttle buses and plenty of taxis. 

Newcastle Central Station is served by GNER, Virgin Cross Country and Regional Railway trains, which operate direct services from most cities in Britain. The International Terminal at Royal Quays, North Shields is only 7 miles (11km) east of the city centre.  It's the North of England's main sea link with Scandinavia and Northern Europe, operating regular passenger services from Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands. Getting around

Tyne and Wear Metro (www.nexus.org.uk/wps/wcm/connect/Nexus/Metro) links Newcastle Gateshead with the rest of Tyne and Wear. It has been rated as one of the UK's best transport systems and links Newcastle Gateshead with the rest of Tyne and Wear.  There are 58 Metro stations including a station at Newcastle International Airport is the ideal way to get to the Jesmond cafĂ© bar scene and the beaches in North and South Tyneside.

Local bus services (www.traveline.org.uk) are plentiful and frequent and operators offer a variety of special family and explorer tickets. If you wish to investigate further afield, Explorer North East tickets take you beyond the boundaries of Tyne and Wear as far as North Yorkshire, Berwick and Carlisle.
