Alison Lewis-Jones' perfect day
Alison Lewis-Jones is a Product Executive at visitBritain. Originally from Yalding in Kent, she has lived in London for 4 years. Here she describes her perfect day in her home town.
"My perfect day would begin with an organic juice in one hand and a hot bacon sandwich in the other, wandering down the cobbled path of Yalding High Street. Yalding Farmers Market (www.yaldingfarmersmarket.co.uk/index.html) is in full throw and there are people everywhere sampling the organic produce and fine foods. The air is crisp and sky blue; you can hear people chatting to one another as they soon become regulars to this local feast.
Having plumped myself up ready for action I would take a walk through the village and down to the weir where the car is parked, the walk reminds me why Kent is called the Garden of England, fields and trees go on for miles over the North Downs.
Yalding is situated on the confluence on three rivers; each river is still crossed by a medieval bridge, with Town Bridge over the Beult, Twyford Bridge over the Medway, and Laddingford Bridge over the Teise. The Medway is a renowned fishing spot and walking along the banks allows me to reminisce of camping out with friends for a spot of night fishing, there is also great canoeing but I don't fancy getting wet today.
