Stephen Twining's perfect day

Stephen Twining

Stephen Twining is an ambassador for Twinings of London (www.twinings.com/home.php), and is part of the 10th generation of this famous tea family. Stephen drinks between 9 and 15 cups of tea a day, and here he shares his perfect day in the south east of England and London.

"A perfect day for me would include the company of family and friends, with a mixture of culture, and some fine food and beverages, and yes I do mean some tea!

I think I would start in the nice relaxing setting of Arundel in West Sussex. It is a very pleasant town, with a stunning castle, which is well worth making time to visit. There is a stunning view from the keep, as well as beautiful artefacts and gorgeous rooms. There is something for every interest. If you get the chance then do take the opportunity to see the private quarters, which for the heady price of an extra pound per head, is money well spent!

Arundel is a lovely small town, a little way inland from the south coast. It has definitely kept its charm through the centuries. It has a nice mix of restaurants, pubs, and individual shops including a good selection of antiques retailers.

Having spent a good part of the day in Arundel, I would move to London. Along the way a good cup of tea and depending on the weather a crumpet or tasty sandwich would be most welcome.

Time enough to visit the Wallace Collection in Manchester Square, which holds a fantastic set of art works as well as some exquisite examples of French furniture, all beautifully displayed in what would have been a magnificent home.

After a satisfying day of culture it would be time to relax over dinner at one of London's many great restaurants. I might well choose The Wolseley (www.thewolseley.com/) on Piccadilly - they have some fantastic examples of great British fare as well as a continental feel to the menu. The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere with terrific service and stunning chandeliers. It is a great mix of the best of contemporary London in a traditional but unconventional setting. If you have never tried Black Velvet, then this is a great place to do it, served in a silver tankard!"
