Which course?
Postgraduate study
There are two main types of taught postgraduate courses: Master’s programmes, which normally consist of classes and seminars plus a dissertation; and diploma or certificate courses, which consist of classes and seminars, but with no dissertation.
A research degree is the ultimate opportunity if you want to pursue your own specialist interests. You’ll be expected to initiate and develop your topic under the supervision of one or possibly two academics. To be successful, you will need to demonstrate intellectual independence.
Course Structure
British degrees can take just three years and postgraduate master’s courses only one year compared with four years and two years in most other countries. This means you will save a great deal on both tuition fees and living costs and you will be able to start working and earning money sooner. British degree courses are shorter because they are more intensive, and therefore more efficient in terms of your time and money.
Funding
British institutions offer thousands of scholarships and bursaries for international students, while more than 21,000 international students receive scholarship funding from the British Government every year. To further help fund your studies under existing work regulations, international students in Britain can work up to 20 hours a week when studying and full time during vacations.
